Hi !, I hope this finds you really well. I know I haven't been a good correspondent this year, but I've been on the road these last 18 months, travelling India and Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and Morocco, researching destinations for my Spice Voyages Small Group Tours and Workshops (interesting fact: I had no idea that the first Moslems to settle in Sri Lanka were from Morocco... ). I even stopped for two months in Fes to study Arabic, as I'll be moving back to Morocco next month to make home there. The old Medina, where I'll be living, dates from the 7th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage city just oozing history from its 9000 alleyways. No cars - donkeys carry away the garbage, and every day I wander into the souk to practice my fledgling Arabic with street vendors selling everything imaginable. The food is gorgeous, the people gracious and it's an art-lovers' paradise with artisans crafting exquisite hand-made articles in leather, cedar wood, metal and textiles. Along my journey I've been collecting and commissioning beautiful things, and it gives me great pleasure to invite you to my home for festive drinks, an opportunity to catch up and enjoy these gorgeous one-off artisan artworks from Morocco and India - and yes, everything is available to purchase. I'd love to see you !
Meanwhile, the novelty of living out of a suitcase hasn't diminished one bit, thanks to my friends at Luggagegear.com.au who generously sponsored my 14-day Saharan safari and supplied my indestructible Juno Luggage. Not far from Tamgroute, the last Moroccan town before Timbuktu, I found stunning, deep-green glazed pottery still made in ancient kilns. With 6 months to reach Perth it might have been quicker with Mouchoir my well-tempered camel!
