If you’ve been thinking about this destination, as I had for many years, it more than repays the journey. Madagascar is amazing, and constantly surprising.

Madagascar, the island that time forgot, is a destination like no other, for more than 90% of its wildlife is endemic. Much of it is micro-endemic occurring in discrete areas of the island and nowhere else.

The Red Island, as it’s known, is as diverse a place as one could imagine: wet rain forests the length of the country abound with diverse wildlife on the east coast, whilst the west coast offers dry forests with entirely different flora and fauna. In my first week I sighted nine species of lemurs between the western dry forests and the southeastern rainforests ... there's more than 110 species, but each sighting is a joy!

The landscape is spectacular, with beautiful beaches, hideaway islands, fascinating villages and culture. Malagasy people are a delight, and with the French to thank for their influence on cuisine, dining in Madagascar is a pleasure.

Join me at the best time to travel when the rainforests are most comfortable to explore, and birdlife is abundant.

Madagascar is definitely for the adventurer in you, but that doesn't mean you have to forgo comfort.

This tour has been designed by me with two expert guides to create a panoramic travel experience, with sometimes luxurious, but always comfortable, accommodation, and importantly, a wonderful on-board guide who has really impressed me when I was in Madagascar in December 2024.

My tour is especially designed to offer:

  • As wide a diversity of nature, locations and culture as is possible within a comfortable 2-week period

  • You will experience the East and West coasts in detail.

  • This means minimum time driving on long, often poor roads. Instead we will take flights, saving you a total of 5 nights and very long days on the road if we were driving.

  • You'll see the extraordinary, but difficult-to-reach, UNESCO-listed Large and Small Tsinge on our own special charter flight to Morondava - saving you 2 nights on the road (this certainly adds to the cost but it's a very long way to go by road, and is a superb visual feast, not to be missed). The plane is at our disposal, so you can feel unrushed today.

  • Best-available luxurious hotels with the comfort you need at the end of long days, chosen for their locations, immersed in Nature, delicious cuisine, caring service and other amenities to enjoy (spas, etc)

  • We're not in a rush - you'll spend 3 nights in each destination whilst travelling to take time to relax and really soak up the atmosphere and unique wildlife that each destination offers.

  • As many guided wildlife walks as you would like - ready for more?  Our guides are ready to take you night walking or early-morning birding even if it's not on the itinerary.

  • Your last 2 nights in a 4.5-star city hotel with all amenities

  • a leisurely day tour in the capital of Antananarivo on your last day. Choose what you'd like to see - personally I highly recommend the photography museum followed by a fabulous lunch nearby - don't eat too much, though, we have a special dinner planned for you tonight.

  • All tips included in the tour cost

  • Most meals are included - except where it's more fun to go out and try the local fare

  • Highly-experienced, clear English-speaking guide from beginning to end - John is a specialised birder whom I've invited to join us because November is the season for birds, and we have fantastic locations of our hotels and lodges where we can really take advantage of John's expertise.

  • Local expert guides in each location

  • Anna will escort this tour

  • The logistics are handled by one of Madagascar's top travel coordinators.

We have only 12 places on this bespoke tour, so ....
