Retreat Accommodation for your
Art or Writing Retreat in Hydra, Greece in 2024
Depending on your retreat, choose from 2 or 3 great port-side locations
Hydra is fortunate to be a national monument - the entire island! (we'll go into 'why' when we meet).
One cannot change the colour of a window sash with express approval of the local municipality.
This means that huge apartment and hotel blocks do not mar the magnificent landscape. Instead, original buildings are transformed into small accommodations ranging from backpacker pensions to hellishly expensive hideaways. So we will not all be staying in one big hotel, but rather, in these authentic Hydra buildings with their quirks - where each room is DIFFERENT, as reflected in the listings on the price sheet for each retreat which you can find and download on each retreat page.
Hydra's majestic port and hillside landscape looks fabulous from afar, but walking up those flights of white stairs every day can be a bind, so I have chosen these options which are all stylish, whisper quiet luxury with beautiful linens, delicious breakfasts and easily accessed on port level, with none, or just a few stairs.
Anna has specifically chosen these accommodation options to offer:
-
something charming about each - no dingy rooms
-
close to port access (no need for donkeys to carry your luggage to your hotel)
-
grouped together so we don't lose one another as a group
-
Sophia's and Phaedra are not reached by steps. Portadelmare (Este's retreat only), has a short flight of steps to an incredible view.
-
Sophia's and Phaedra include good breakfasts, whilst the Portadelmare boutique suites do not provide breakfast. (there are several lovely places for breakfast on the port)
-
SO! choose your favourite and book fast to ensure your first choice, as, each room is unique and one-of-a kind in each and very hotel.
The retreat hub for Este's retreat is the Portadelmare boutique residence (there are 4 suites), close to the Police office - and tucked just behind the laneway on the left of the port leading of the main quay. It's easy to get to, quiet, has a spa pool and space for us to work as a group.
The retreat hub for Noels and Shelley's retreats in the Phaedra hotel.
In all cases, the hotels are close to one another for easy communication between all participants.

Amongst Hydra's cosmopolitan community, Sophia's - the first hotel to operate in Hydra- offers six traditional rooms, fabulous breakfasts and the ease of not having to negotiate a single step to reach its entrance just off the port front.
Three of the rooms have unlimited, unobstructed port views and the sea beyond, whilst all rooms are decorated differently, with the dominant finishes being timber and stone - "classic with modern touches', very much in harmony with the traditional building. Not all rooms are available for all retreats, so please check the specific pricelist for each retreat.

Another traditional building, offering 7 rooms in various combinations on two floors around a read courtyard , with wonderful views to the mountainside. This building, in the C.19th, was originally a carpet factory, meticulously renovated to maintain its traditional Hydraic mansion- style architecture.
The harmonious nature of the hotel is reflected in the quietly luxurious finishings, beautiful linens, peaceful ambience and sense of deep wellbeing that exudes here.
The suites and studios on the first floor have a terrace of balcony with a view of the town or the mountains, whilst those on the ground floor access the peaceful courtyard.
